Copeland Elementary- then and now
In it's earlier years,s Copeland Elementary School was known as Trinity School.  It later changed it's name to Lighthouse Charter School.  It would keep this name for three years from 2004 - 2006.  In the 2006 - 2007 school year, the School of Excellence family would grow by one more member, naming it's new building after Dr. David M. Copeland.  In its inaugural year, the school was a full-fledged elementary school housing students in grades K-6.  The response to the new school was overwhelming.  Classrooms had to be created and teachers needed to be hired.  There was a total of five kindergarten, five first grade, five second grade, five third grade, three fourth grade, three fifth grade and two sixth grade teachers.  Special classes included art, music, computer technology and Geographical Information Systems.
Now in its second year, Copeland Elementary has gone through some changes in personnel.  Many of the teachers returned to a new administration.  At the helm this year are: Principal Joel Allen, Assistant Principal Vanessa Brooks, Curriculum Instructional Coordinator Manika Glass, and Secretary Octavius Jackson.  Special classes this year include art, computer technology and digital photography/video.  The Copeland staff is looking forward to the improvements and intend on becoming an exemplary school this year.
